Managed IT for Small Businesses That Can't Afford for Things to Break

SNL-Tech Services is a single-operator managed IT firm based in Columbia, MD. I'm your IT partner. Direct, accountable, and personally invested in your business.

What SNL-Tech Services Actually Does

Managed IT means I handle the technology your business runs on so you don't have to think about it. That includes the day-to-day work: keeping computers running, fixing problems when they come up, managing your Microsoft 365 environment, and the bigger picture work that most small businesses ignore until something goes wrong.

Cybersecurity and Protection

Your Insurance Carrier Expects These. Attackers Are Betting You Don't Have Them.

MFA on every account. Endpoint protection on every device. Email security that actually stops phishing. Backup that's been tested and works.

Your cyber insurance carrier is requiring these controls now. Attackers specifically target small businesses because they know most don't have them. A single phished password with MFA enabled is a problem. A single phished password without MFA is a breach.

What I handle:

  • MFA on every account

  • Endpoint detection and response on every device

  • Email security including anti-phishing and Safe Links

  • Tested backup with offsite copies

  • Patch management so you're not vulnerable to known attacks

  • Cyber Insurance Readiness Assessment if you need proof your controls match what your carrier expects

Compliance Support

You Probably Know What You Should Be Doing. Actually Doing It Is Another Story.

HIPAA, FTC Safeguards, CMMC, PCI-DSS. Your cyber insurance carrier. Your industry regulations. The gap between knowing you need these things and actually having documented evidence when someone asks is where most small businesses stumble.

I handle the technical implementation and the documentation so you have something to show.

What I handle:

  • HIPAA technical controls for healthcare and behavioral health practices

  • FTC Safeguards implementation for CPAs and financial advisors

  • CMMC compliance for defense contractors

  • PCI-DSS if you take card payments

  • Microsoft 365 and Google Workspace configured the right way (not defaults)

  • Full compliance documentation and evidence package

  • Cyber insurance readiness assessments and renewals

AI Governance

Your Staff Is Using ChatGPT, Claude, and Copilot Right Now. You Probably Don't Have a Policy For It.

ChatGPT, Claude, Copilot, Gemini, Grok. Your team is using them on personal accounts to get work done faster. Most of it is happening with no policy and no oversight.

That means client data, project information, proprietary work is leaving your business with no controls. If litigation happens, those chat histories are discoverable and your business has no way to manage those records. Your cyber insurance carrier is adding AI-specific exclusions to policies.

I help you find out what's in use, classify the risk, and put a governance framework in place before it becomes a problem.

What I handle:

  • Discovery of what AI tools staff is actually using

  • Risk classification for each tool and use case

  • Acceptable Use Policy specific to your business

  • Governance framework and documentation

  • Cyber insurance readiness for AI-specific coverages

  • Full AI Governance Assessment.

Why Small Businesses Work With SNL-Tech Services

Most small businesses can't justify a full-time IT person. Most don't need one. What you need is someone who knows your setup, responds when something breaks, keeps things secure, and tells you the truth about what you actually need versus what's optional.

That's what I do. I know your environment, your staff, and what matters to your business. You get me directly, not a rotation or a ticket queue.

Not sure where to start? I offer a free 30-minute consultation to understand your current setup, what's working, what's not, and what you're most concerned about. No pitch. No pressure.

The four things clients tell me they were missing before

One: Someone who picks up the phone. Not a ticket queue. Not a call center. Me, directly, when something breaks.

Two: Honest advice. I'm not going to sell you something you don't need. If the right answer is "you don't need to change anything," I'll say that.

Three: A setup that actually makes sense. Not defaults out of a box. A configuration that matches how your business works, what you're required to protect, and what your cyber insurance carrier expects to see.

Four: Someone who stays on top of it. Microsoft changes things. Attackers change tactics. Carriers add requirements. You shouldn't have to keep up with all of it. That's my job.

Frequently Asked Questions

What kinds of businesses do you work with?

Law firms, healthcare and behavioral health practices, construction companies, farms and equestrian facilities, financial services firms, dental and medical offices, veterinary clinics, animal care businesses, trades businesses, and defense contractors pursuing CMMC. If your industry isn't listed, reach out. I may still be a good fit.

Do you work outside of Maryland?

Yes. I work with businesses across Maryland, Northern Virginia, West Virginia, Delaware, Pennsylvania, and the DC area. Most of what I do is handled remotely. Audits, assessments, Microsoft 365 management, security configuration, and day-to-day support can all be done without stepping foot in your building. I come onsite when the situation calls for it, such as network installations, camera systems, or shop WiFi. For situations that require travel outside my typical coverage area, arrangements can be made. I have traveled as far as southern Georgia and Vermont to support clients onsite, including a WiFi assessment and recommendations for a campground in Vermont.

What if I already have IT support?

Depends on what you need. Some clients bring me in for a specific assessment or project. Some want me to take over entirely from a previous provider. Some have an internal person who handles basic support and want me to handle the security and compliance side. I can work in any of those situations without stepping on what's already in place.

Your IT is handled by someone who knows your business, not whoever picks up the ticket

I'm Shay Stoddard, owner of SNL-Tech Services.

I started this business because small businesses deserved the same quality of IT that larger companies get, without the enterprise price tag or the impersonal experience that usually comes with it.

I work with businesses across Maryland, Northern Virginia, West Virginia, Delaware, Pennsylvania, and the DC area. My clients include law firms, healthcare practices, construction companies, farms, financial services firms, dental offices, veterinary clinics, trades businesses, and defense contractors. Every one of them gets a direct relationship with me.

I'm not a help desk. I'm your IT partner. There's a difference. SNL-Tech Services is a woman-owned and operated business.

So very happy!

So very happy to have found Shay of SNL - Tech Services. I asked my neighbors and her name came up more than once as someone I could count on when I needed computer help. What a find and a blessing for me because it was not long after I asked that I was in great need of her services. She is very prompt, capable, efficient, and fair pricewise. I cannot recommend her highly enough. So grateful to have found her and I consider her a friend.

My go-to person.

Shay is a very knowledgeable IT consultant. As a small business owner I want to ensure I am doing things properly when it comes to IT and Shay is my go-to person. She always has an answer or a solution for what I am trying to accomplish. Also, working from home, I was looking to have some flexibility in how I work, so, Shay was able to install WiFi outside my home so I can work outdoors on nice days and not lose my signal. What a great addition to my home office! If you are a small business owner, having a reliable IT person, like Shay, is priceless!

What wonderful service!

My God, what wonderful service and knowledge. The staff helped the local Fire Department with some IT issues. They're knowledgeable and super kind. They had everything up and running so that we could continue to serve the public. I couldn't believe how amazing SNL Tech was. I would buy a computer, and break it just so they could fix it again.
